The official mission and purpose of the Order of the Arrow states "Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long term resident camping, and providing cheerful service to others." Because promoting camping is a key purpose of the Order of the Arrow, the history of Boy Scout Camps in Vermont is an integral part of Vermont's Order of the Arrow History.
